Saint-Tropez - the piece de resistance
By | October 10, 2007
Located on the wonderful French Riviera, Saint-Tropez has been popular for its beaches, and as a highly fashionable holiday resort, for some time, first coming to the attention of the rich and famous back in the 1950’s, and to this day it is seen as one of the top vacation destinations, especially for the well-to-do. Back in the days when it was Brigitte Bardot’s hideaway, it was a relatively quiet fishing village, a little off the beaten track, but today it is the piece de resistance of up-market locations where one can simply get away from it all. Visitors love to take a stroll along the harbor promenade, with luxury yachts idly bobbing in the waters on one side, fashionably dressed people sipping wine or expresso in the chic cafes opposite, and open, luxury sports cars cruising past in the sunshine.
Some of the best beaches of Saint-Tropez are a little along the coast in the Baie de Pampelonne, just south of Saint-Tropez. The bay, which stretches for five kilometres, has a number of beautiful beaches, and a number of them have restaurants and cafes right at the water’s edge.
The beaches of Saint-Tropez are a great place for showing off the latest fashionable beachwear, but if naturism is your thing, then Plage de Tahiti is a nude beach where you can go just to soak up the sun, and not worry one jot about fashion.
Water sports are available, such as windsurfing, sailing, canoeing, power boats, jet bikes and water skiing.
Saint-Tropez has a number of highly rated hotels all offering pleasant rooms, good service and excellent Provencale food.
