So you long to see what's under water? But do not want to go through the hassle of putting on the diving gears? Or you are just plain lazy to go for diving lessons. Do not worry too much. You can still manage to enjoy the marine life.
Snorkeling is the key, a magnificent activity that can be enjoyed by almost anybody who is close to the ocean, a lake, river, pond or quarry. Agreed snorkeling lives under the shadows of scuba diving which is another excellent pastime, but the greatest advantage that a snorkeler has is he can do it anywhere, anytime! All you would need is a snorkel and masks and you are good to go.
Imagine not having to take a deep plunge into the ocean and swim underwater, bear all that pressure on the ears. Just lie above and peep inside the water and the entire underwater comes alive in front of you. Hmmm' Some experience.
But what are the things you need to keep in mind while you go snorkeling? Here is a list:
It is true any place that has water is good for snorkeling. But it is equally true if the place is dry underneath, snorkeling is no fun. So selecting a good site is the first thing to do. Now what makes a good snorkeling site? Depending on the weather conditions, snorkeling sites change. A good site will probably be in a secluded cove where there is still water and little current. A bad site will be the one where the water is contaminated due to pollution which will discourage marine life to grow.
Who can tell you about the best snorkeling sites? Simple. Ask the dive shops around you, or local people or fishermen for that matter. Befriend that fisherman because you might need his boat to take you to your snorkeling site.
Settle for a good diving mask, which takes the shape of your face and fits it properly. If the diving mask is sorted, buy a defogging solution which will permit you to avoid fogging troubles while you dive. The mask you purchase must fit you rightly or else water may go through and become a big problem. You should also make sure that your snorkel can be fastened to the mask without any problems. If your mask's strap is too wide or too arrow for your snorkel to be properly attached to it, you might have to look for another mask.
Fins you choose are equally important. It is again important to see if the fins you choose fit you and allow you to feel comfortable. This is necessary so that when you practice snorkeling they easily adapt to your swimming styles.
- Now that you have all the gears in place, how about snorkeling in the night under the underwater flashlight? There are many creatures which stay hidden in the daytime and can be observed under the underwater flashlight. But if you decide to snorkel at night make sure you are at a site you are familiar with. Plunging into unknown waters can prove dangerous.
These simple lessons about snorkeling give you an idea that to enjoy beauty under water you do not need to be a diver, snorkeling is the key.
